Terminal Emulation

Wavelink Terminal Emulation (TE) is the industry leading emulation client and is in use on more than 4 million mobile devices worldwide, including many of the largest retailers in the world. Wavelink TE is the most comprehensive solution for accessing, managing and maintaining connections to applications resident on host systems using popular emulation types that include 5250, 3270, VT and HP emulation. Where other terminal emulators only support some of today’s input types, only Wavelink TE supports virtually all data types. Wavelink TE’s tight integration with mobile computers provides the ability to accept data from the keyboard, barcode scanner, voice inputs, RFID reader, and magnetic stripe reader or touch screen.

Wavelink Terminal Emulation software features the broadest range of supported devices across all major AIDC mobile device vendors and OS platforms. As an agnostic solution, Wavelink TE family of clients supports Windows based, Android, iOS and DOS/legacy devices, and preserves existing infrastructure investment, while providing an easy migration path to newer devices and technologies.

Wavelink TE helps your system and people work smarter by providing intelligent data collection and communications functions. Prevent errors and inefficiencies caused by incorrect data entry or scans, take advantage of easy on-screen navigation, and maximize the uptime of your workforce by avoiding dropped connections, directed messages and error notices.

Wavelink Emulation License Server (Optional):

The Wavelink Emulation License server makes it easy to distribute and keep track of licenses across a large number of hand held devices by centralizing this function in an easy-to-use application. To download select "Emulation License Server" from the Wavelink Product Downloads menu.

Environment:

Windows CE or Windows Mobile device running TelnetCE

TelnetCE 7.x and newer

How to set up TelnetCE to use SSH:

Make sure that you have Windows Mobile device center open and connected to the device. Press "Connect with setting up the device". Then you can minimize the mobile device center application while you perform the following steps:

  1. Install the support top support package meant for the device (onto the client)
  2. Install the support package for the computer
For Steps 1 & 2, go to http://www.wavelink.com/Download-Emulation-SSH-Software/  and download both of the highlighted downloads below:
  3. Open TelnetCE Configuration Utility

  4. Select Host Profiles
  5. Check the box for SSH at the bottom
  6. Click on the SSH tab
  7. Check the box for the private key
  8. Click "private key selection"
  9. Load private key and then navigate to your .ppk .
You should then see the key, key fingerprint, and key comment.
  10. If you have a passphrase, enter this now, but it is not required
  11. Press Done
  12. Press "Add Current Host Keys"
  13. You will receive a message confirming this is complete
  14. Press OK
  15. Make sure that TelnetCE is closed on the device
  16. Press "Config Only"
  17. Once the settings are sent to the device, open TelnetCE and press enter to connect to your host

How to extract TelnetCE configuration from a device

$

0

Environment:

  • TelnetCE / Wavelink Industrial Browser 6.x and later

Issue/Question/Problem:

  • I have devices with configuration settings that I want to extract. How do I extract the Telnet settings?

Resolution:

Here are the basic steps:

  1. Setup
  2. Extraction
  3. Restoration
  4. Creating a new WLTNA file

Setup

  1. On your computer (not mobile device), install the telnet configuration client for the device your working with (but the type doesn't really matter). I'd recommend just using this basic MC9100 telnet configuration utility for the sake of simplicity: http://www.wavelink.com/download/Downloads.aspx?DownloadFile=17037&returnUrl=/Motorola%20(Symbol)-MC9100-Emulators-downl…
  2. Once installed, verify that you can open it and use it properly
  3. Also, find the directory created for this installation (mine is C:\Program Files (x86)\Wavelink\TelnetCE\MOT_MC9100_CE6)

Extraction

Here are a few ways you could extract the information

  • Avalanche Remote Control
  • USB Cable Connection and Windows Mobile Device Centre (or Activesync)
  • SD or Micro SD Card extraction

Avalanche Remote Control

  1. Remote into device
  2. Click on the File System
  3. Navigate to the following (or similar) file folder on your device: \Application\Avalanche\TN609100
  4. Select all of the files in the folder, right click and select "Copy to PC"
  5. From the Computer, copy the files and paste them into C:\Program Files (x86)\Wavelink\TelnetCE\MOT_MC9100_CE6
  6. You will be prompted to either Copy and Replace or not copy or to copy and rename. I would select "Copy and Replace" (also select this little box on the bottom left for repeating this step for all files)
  7. Now open the C:\Program Files (x86)\Wavelink\TelnetCE\MOT_MC9100_CE6\TelnetConfig.exe application
  8. You should have the exact configuration as you have on the device
  9. MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Export this fully configuration to a wltna file and save it in a location where you will be able to find it again in the future
    1. Click Import/Export
    2. Select Export all settings
    3. Save to a known location

USB Cable Connection with Windows Mobile Device Centre or Activesync

  1. Connect the device to your machine
  2. In the Windows Mobile Device Center, click 'Connect without setting up device'
  3. Click 'File Management' and open the file system of your device
  4. If you are using the Avalanche Enabler, then:
    • Navigate to the following (or similar) file folder on your device: \Application\Avalanche\TN609100
    • Highlight and Copy all of the files within this folder (CTRL+C)
  5. If you are only using TelnetCE (without the Avalanche Enabler)
    • Navigate to the following (or similar) file folder on your device: \Application\Wavelink\TelnetCE
    • Copy the following files from this folder
      • CERTLIST.PEM
      • Config.tim
      • HostCfg.bin
      • HostCfgs.bin
      • HostDff.bin
      • HostDffs.bin
      • license.bin
      • PersistentVars.bin
      • PROFILES.DAT
      • REFORMAT.BIN
      • RESOURCE.BIN
      • s24cfg.dat
      • SCRIPTS.BIN
      • SSHAUTH.DAT
      • TERMCFG.BIN
      • WEBDATA.BIN
  6. In another window, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Wavelink\TelnetCE\MOT_MC9100_CE6 (directory from Step 3 of Setup)
  7. Paste the files (CTRL+P)
  8. You will be prompted to either Copy and Replace or not copy or to copy and rename. I would select "Copy and Replace" (also select this little box on the bottom left for repeating this step for all files)
  9. Now open the C:\Program Files (x86)\Wavelink\TelnetCE\MOT_MC9100_CE6\TelnetConfig.exe application
  10. You should have the exact configuration as you have on the device
  11. MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Export this fully configuration to a wltna file and save it in a location where you will be able to find it again in the future
    1. Click Import/Export
    2. Select Export all settings
    3. Save to a known location

SD or Micro SD Card

  1. Insert an SD Card into the device
  2. Navigate to the following (or similar) file folder on your device: \Application\Wavelink\TelnetCE
  3. Copy the following files from this folder to the SD Card
      • CERTLIST.PEM
      • Config.tim
      • HostCfg.bin
      • HostCfgs.bin
      • HostDff.bin
      • HostDffs.bin
      • license.bin
      • PersistentVars.bin
      • PROFILES.DAT
      • REFORMAT.BIN
      • RESOURCE.BIN
      • s24cfg.dat
      • SCRIPTS.BIN
      • SSHAUTH.DAT
      • TERMCFG.BIN
      • WEBDATA.BIN
  4. Safely eject the SD Card from the device
  5. Connect the SD card to your computer
  6. On the SD Card, copy the files from step 3
  7. On the computer, in another window, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Wavelink\TelnetCE\MOT_MC9100_CE6 (directory from Step 3 of Setup)
  8. Paste the files (CTRL+P)
  9. You will be prompted to either Copy and Replace or not copy or to copy and rename. I would select "Copy and Replace" (also select this little box on the bottom left for repeating this step for all files)
  10. Now open the C:\Program Files (x86)\Wavelink\TelnetCE\MOT_MC9100_CE6\TelnetConfig.exe application

Problems configuring the Font emulation parameter

$

Problem

I have configured and pushed the "font type" emulation parameter but my new font is not showing up when I launch telnet. What is needed to change the font type telnet uses on my device?

Response

Telnet can use any font that is loaded onto the device. The key here, is that the configured font MUST be installed on the device for telnet to be able to use it. You can also choose the font type from the device by clicking options>configure>emulation>font.

On telnet for windows 7 and above the settings are located here Term>>Configure>>Emulation Parameters>>Emulation>>Display>>Font name

Note: A WARMBOOT IS REQUIRED FOR THE NEW FONT TO WORK CORRECTLY.

Please note if you are using Windows 7 and higher versions you need to make two more additional changes

Navigate to this place Term>Emulation parameters>Display>

Stretch screen height by default this is enabled, change it to disabled.

Stretch screen width by default this is enabled, change it to disabled.

once you save the changes the font size will change.

Environment:

What This Article Covers:

  • How to move licenses from one Wavelink Emulation License Server to another
  • How to set up a backup or redundant Wavelink Emulation License Server

Instructions:

In the configuration of the License Server you can define ‘OtherServer’. This is used for redundancy of the server and will synchronise all databases of these servers:

So if you install a new server and configure ‘OtherServer’ on both servers to point at each other, the licenses will immediately be available on the new server. You will have to configure all devices to connect to the new server:

F1 key is not working on Zebra MC32N0

Hi, We are using MC9190 with WL telnet 7.3.146 and all function keys are working fine. Now we are migrating to MC32N0.

We exported the config file (.wltna) and imported it into the WL configurator 7.3.303 to keep the same configuration parameters.

But now, we figured out that the F1 key is not behaving as in the MC9190. The function expected is to go back to the previous screen/menu, but it is not happening with MC32N0. It looks like the F1 key is not working at all.

We tested the key at Program Diagnostics screen and the key code is the same on both PDAs (3B00). Even the regular key is displaying the right key code (letter a = 0061).

does anybody know what is causing it?

Regards.

Scanner not Working on Intermec/Honeywell devices

$

Problem/Issue:

Scanning is no longer working on any applications on my Intermec/Honeywell devices after I rebooted the device.

Resolution:

This can be caused when you set the Allow Scan Ahead feature in Telnet Emulation to 'No' and then reboot.  Turning this feature to no disables the scanner and then a reboot will cause the scanner to be disabled for all applications.

The resolution is to ensure that you have the Allow Scan Ahead feature set to 'Yes'.  Reboot as needed.
